Discover Your Leadership Style

The word Leadership. What is the first thing that comes to your mind, when you hear the word leadership?

I believe most of us will have the same answer, Leadership means to take charge. In fact, the definition of leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization toward certain goals or objectives.

But often, we forget one important part of leadership, Which is to Understanding our leadership style.

I first discover my leadership style, when I join a corporate company, after joining the company for a few months, I was lucky enough, that all managers are enrolled in a 12 months long leadership program. In one of the programs, we are asked to answer questionnaires and divided into groups based on our scores. There are 4 groups in total.

The instructor then asks " Now draw a layout of your dream office, be creative, be crazy". Since everyone in my group has similar scores from the questionnaires, all our layout is, well almost similar. I mean, who doesn't want a big corner office, with a 70 inch TV, and all your awards, plaque, and trophies in a giant glass cabinet?. After a few moments, we were then asked to present our office layout group by group.

It came to my surprise that my group is the only group, that has an office layout where all of us have our rooms, with doors, blinds, and separated from each other. The other groups have their office layout where there is designated workspace space for everyone, but they are still able to talk and communicate with each other. And there is a layout where they are all in an open space, in front of the beach with lots of natural lights,  and then this group, where they just draw Starbucks layout as their office, mentioning they can work anywhere.

From the project,  It occurs to me, that our leadership style is not only about how we convey instructions, providing information, or inspire others but it is also a reflection of our personality. From the results of the simple questionnaire, we were able to group people based on their leadership style and people with a certain leadership style share the same personality, it is proven based on the similarity of the office layout within the same group.

I start to wonder, which leadership style is the best. Is my personality entitle me to the best leadership style? Do I need to change my personality to adapt to different leadership styles?

After finishing Visionary communication, Level 2, Project one Pathways, I learned that there are 8 different leadership styles. Pacesetting, Innovative, Authoritative, Bureaucratic, Democratic, Affiliative, Coaching, and Altruistic. I also learned that each style may be more effective in a certain situation and less effective in another situation.

Furthermore, the project mentioned that I will learn to adapt our leadership style and behaviors based on the situation and the people being led. Let me give you some examples. Democratic leadership is most effective when the knowledge of the entire team is needed to solve a problem. On the other hand, Authoritative leadership is less effective when explicit guidance is required.

Understanding our leadership style is a gateway to understanding leadership in general. Even though we are leaning towards a certain style it doesn't mean that other leadership styles are not meant for us. The reason for us to understand our leadership style is for us to identify which style needs improvement.

There is no such thing as the best leadership style. Look at fashion, for example, you may wear your sharpest suits and have the neatest hairstyle, but if you wear that and walk into a sports bar, that might not be the best outfit for that situation.

Leaders are made, they are not born. Effective leaders are excellent communicators and display a high level of personal integrity. They are open-minded, optimistic, and lead by example.

A good leader is the one who able to determine which leadership style to be used based on the situation.

5 Common Dating Mistakes You Don't Know You're Making

1. Tunnel vision.

Don't limit your dating pool to your normal "type." Branch out of your dating comfort zone and give a chance to those you haven't previously considered (think age, looks, profession, location). You just might be surprised as to whom you meet and fall for.

2. Underestimating how much you have to offer.

Be you; not what you think other people want (i.e. your mother, your friends or that guy you've had your eye on). Authenticity is sexy, and it goes hand in hand with confidence, adding up to a very attractive combination. Plus, if it clicks with someone, you'll know it's real.

3. Judging yourself.

Confidence and friendliness count for way more than model looks -- in dating, and in life. You're human; you have flaws. Learn to rock your flaws instead of beating yourself up.

4. Expecting too much (or anything) on a first date.

Having expectations about a first date almost always leads to disappointment, especially when you're first diving back into the game when your fear level is high. Avoid this by enjoying the company no matter what they're like. If it's great? Great -- go out again. If the date totally tanked? Enjoy a bad date for what it is -- a great story to tell your friends. Taking the pressure off makes for an enjoyable time, no matter what happens.

5. Cynic-syndrome.

When you're in post break-up "I've-been-burned" mode, it's incredibly common (and natural) to assume the worst about people. Do your best to avoid this and you'll be pleasantly surprised how everyone isn't your evil ex. Letting go of cynicism is a major part of moving forward. This is a hard one, so be patient with yourself!

So, as you get back out into the dating world, take a step back and be aware of yourself, your thoughts, and how you are presenting yourself to the world. Remember these 5 common mistakes, know that you're not alone in thinking this way, and try to keep these mistakes from preventing a potential future happy relationship.

Step by step - How to breake WEP encryption using Ubuntu

i will post this technique Next week.. been busy This week... :)

Brute Force attack - The Importance of Strong Password

Introduction

In cryptography, a Brute Force Attack is a strategy used to break the encryption of data. It involves traversing the search space of possible keys until the correct key is found.

The selection of an appropriate key length depends on the practical feasibility of performing a Brute Force Attack. By obfuscating the data to be encoded, Brute Force Attacks are made less effective as it is more difficult to determine when one has succeeded in breaking the code.

The amount of time required to break a 128-bit key is also daunting. Each of the 2128 (340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456) possibilities must be checked. A device that could check a billion billion keys (1018) per second would still require about 1013 years to exhaust the key space. This is a thousand times longer than the age of the universe, which is about 13,000,000,000 (1.3×1010) years.

How to avoid Brute Force Attack

Use a Strong Password.

The other way to avoid Brute Force Attack is by using a strong password. Avoid using words in dictionary as there are attacks that has similarity to Brute Force Attack that called Dictionary Attacks. It uses the same technique as Brute Force but Dictionary attack will guess your password based on words in dictionary. Dictionary Attack is quicker compare to Brute Force.
Strong passwords are important protections to help you have safer online transactions. Keys to password strength is length and complexity. An ideal password is long and has letters, punctuation, symbols, and numbers.Create a strong password you can remember

Characteristics of a Strong Password

Whenever possible, use at least 14 characters or more.
The greater the variety of characters in your password, the better.
Use the entire keyboard, not just the letters and characters you use or see most often.

Test your password with a password checker

A password checker evaluates your password's strength automatically. Try our secure password checker.

Avoid creating passwords using:
Dictionary words in any language.
Words in all languages are vulnerable.
Words spelled backwards, common misspellings, and abbreviations.
Words in all languages are vulnerable.
Sequences or repeated characters.
Examples: 12345678, 222222, abcdefg, or adjacent letters on your keyboard (qwerty).
Personal information.
Your name, birthday, driver's license, passport number, or similar information.

Summary

Brute Force Attack is not only being used for unauthorized usage, it also used to recover lost password for certain application. For example, if someone is forgetting their Word Document password, brute force technique can be used to recover the password.

Basically, its depends on the user how they used the software. If the intention is for recover a lost password, then it can be defined as advantage of brute force. But if the intention to crack someone else password, obtaining confidential information, or altering resources, it can be defined as misused of technologies.

The simple thing that you can do to prevent Brute Force Attack is to use a strong password. By using a password that strong enough, it is almost impossible to break your password using Brute Force Attack technique.
